carnival chic wedding at salvage one

Francine + Dan were married in December at Salvage One and partied with their friends and family at their carnival chic reception. We had the pleasure of coordinating and styling their day and we brought out the big guns at this, our last wedding of the year.

These gorgeous photos were taken by Anni of Anni Cee Photographie.  A year an a half before we collaborated on Francine + Dan’s wedding, Anticipation Events had the extreme pleasure of coordinating for Anni and her husband Ross at Salvage One.  It felt like coming full circle, and I love that I get to see her and work with her on the vendor side of things for many years to come.

We not only coordinated for Francine + Dan, but we helped them create a unique style for their wedding. Salvage One is so wonderfully eclectic that we were careful not to over-do things, but still wanted to create a whimsical story and space for their guests.  Handmade table runners to give each table a little pop of color, simple gold table numbers, old-fashioned Coca-Cola bottle escort cards, and rolls of vintage raffle tickets propped up flowers that Francine’s aunt brought all the way from California.  We hung metal hot air balloons whose baskets were filled with flowers above each table and I brought Julia and Laura help create a top-drop (like a backdrop, but over your head?!) of fringed crepe paper and cafe lights. I love how it turned out and the way it photographed!

It was our last wedding of the year and a fantastic way to end our best year yet.  We worked with the most wonderful vendors and had the loveliest clients.  And a little carnival chic never hurt anybody on a bright and snowy December day.  Congrats Francine + Dan!

boho wedding at salvage one

I thought I blew it with Anni + Ross the first time we met.  I was definitely a creepy wedding planner.  We were chatting about their wedding of course and I was gushing over their vendors and venue because they were all amazing.  I’m probably the only wedding planner on the face of the earth that won’t throw a complete and total fit about a bride telling me she’s going to do her own flowers, I could just tell Anni could handle it.  They were just. so. chill.  So as we were wrapping up I asked if they were taking a honeymoon after the wedding and they said yes, they were going to Palm Springs. Without thinking I asked, “oh, are you staying at the Ace Hotel?”  The answer was yes, which I am sure creeped them both out a little bit, but I just knew.  They are exactly cool enough to stay there and fit right in. Luckily, they saw past my bizarreness and hired Anticipation Events anyway!

Aimee, our super-duper wedding coordinator actually coordinated their wedding and I can’t tell you how jealous I was.  I kept trying to find ways to sneak in to see it.  But alas, Aimee killed it and didn’t need me at all.

The best news is that Anni was in the process of starting her own photography company and she is currently rocking it all over the city.  I can’t wait until we get to do our first wedding together as vendors!

Diana + Mike were married last year at Salvage One in Chicago.  I am finally posting some pictures from their amazing party now that the feature has been posted on Style Me Pretty.  Because Olivia Leigh is an amazing photographer with a bigger distaste for mayo than yours truly (seriously, it’s written in her contract which basically puts her on rock star status level) and because my words would likely only detract from her talent and also because I know you’re only here for the wedding p0rn anyhow, and in honor of this, the longest run-on sentence on this blog to date, here you go:

Style Me Pretty agreed they are a beautiful couple who threw a fabulous party and I am so glad I was able to be a part of it all.

chicago wedding at salvage one

Laura and Dan got married in October at Salvage One in Chicago. If you have never been there before, you should check it out. They describe themselves best, so I’m not going to mess it up: “We save architectural elements from the wrecking ball. We work to preserve and pass on our history. We have been helping our customers breathe new life into salvaged materials for nearly 30 years. We aim to take salvage further by working with you to add creativity and style to your space. Our store is over 60,000 square feet full of materials and design ideas on four floors. We have a full work shop to do custom work, and a yard full of garden and landscaping ideas.” But it’s also a wicked-cool place to have your wedding, but you better have a little bad-ass in you.

Like I said, pretty awesome, right?

Laura and Dan met through Laura’s sister via Beloit College in Wisconsin (random side note: this was random because I lived in Beloit when I was a wee little one. I went to Happy Face Preschool. Most people have never heard of Beloit- which is my point.)

The ceremony was inside because it was pretty cold out, but the backdrop for it is amazing.

Laura and Dan planned a fun surprise that even their families didn’t know about! They hired a bluegrass band to play during the ceremony and cocktail hour. It was so fun and everyone loved it!

Another thing that is really cool about Salvage One is that dinner is served on the second floor and the tables and chairs used are all items that are for sale at the store. It means that each table is different, some seat four and some seat 12 people, and each table has a unique set of chairs at it. It makes seating a little more complicated because if they sell one of the tables the day before your wedding, you have to re-work the seating, but you get all the chairs and tables with the rental fee and they don’t need linens as they are beautiful on their own. Check out their tables:

They had bright pink, purple and gold fabric that Laura’s sister brought back from Japan and her mom made into table runners. She also stocked up at the after Christmas sale at Pier One and got all of the stuff for her centerpieces and a bunch of Christmas ornaments that we used in the centerpieces and as favors for their guests.

This place also has some a-MAH-zing photo ops. A few of my favorites:

I love how unique their wedding was. Amazing French food, a tango for their first dance, a completely unique setting, Christmas decorations that were totally re-purposed for a wedding and a Dairy Queen ice cream cake surprise for the groom. Go Team Zeewagen!
