love wins at the promontory

Ellen + Kathy’s wedding at The Promontory last year was everything you want in a wedding – sweet, deeply personal, and super fun!

Ellen + Kathy had a beautiful ceremony at The Church of St. Paul and the Redeemer before heading to The Promontory in Hyde Park for an intimate celebration with friends and family. It was a special day for everyone, AE included because the day before their wedding (literally) the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. (Better late than never, people.) But it made it an even more jubilant celebration, for sure.

casually elegant ovation chicago wedding

Last August, we had the pleasure of working with Jane + Chris on their wedding at one of our favorite new venues, Ovation Chicago. Chris was a groomsman in one of 2013 weddings (and one of the most helpful groomsmen we’ve ever met), so we were thrilled to team up with him again and meet his beautiful bride, Jane, who we adored just as much.

Jane + Chris started their day getting ready at The Drake before headed across the street for first look photos in the gardens.

It was a beautiful day for their ceremony and reception at Ovation Chicago and we were thrilled to work with some of our favorite vendors to make their day absolutely perfect. Plus, we love any wedding that ends with a tamale truck!

modern chicago wedding at chez chicago

Heather + David were married in May 2014 at Chez Chicago.  They really rallied when they lost their original venue just a few weeks before their wedding.  All of us vendors kind of tried to jump in and help them find a new space and it was weird how it worked out — Heather kept talking about bright, light, open and airy spaces.  I think Chez ended up being a better fit than their original choice and theirs was the very first wedding they had. A leap of faith, maybe, but man did we all have our game faces on ready to throw ourselves in front of a bus for these two. chicago wedding blog

They got ready!

The old saying goes something like, “you catch more flies with honey,” and I can’t help but think of that every time I think of Heather and David.  They are two of THE. LOVELIEST. PEOPLE you will ever meet and it’s amazing how you can feel yourself going above and beyond for them.  It was an incredible day to be a part of with a rock star vendor team.

1,000 paper cranes folded by Heather, along with some drape, lighting, floral and a few personal touches made a simple but ridiculously elegant day.  A little bit Chicago city chic, a little bit rustic, but mostly a lot of love, support, and teamwork. An amazing thing to watch and once of those couples that you know if just going to be so happy together, forever.

chicago skyline styled shoot at venue six10

This styled shoot was inspired, simply put, by our beautiful city.  The architectural landscape of Chicago’s skyline is incredibly stunning and we chose Venue SIX10 to showcase the cities architecture and give us the modern and clean backdrop we wanted for the shoot.  From the towering skyscrapers to the city’s structural landmarks, the Chicago skyline embodies a pretty masculine form so we challenged ourselves to make that work with the softness and beauty of a wedding day.  We used modern elements to convey sophistication and luxury such as the venue itself, stark white and angular with an amazing view.  Choosing a modern dress and cake that were both a bit asymmetrical and creating a ceremony backdrop that was conceptualized using glass spheres to create a modern illusion added plenty of modern and chic to the shoot.  We paired those elements with all white flowers, white linens and slate grey napkins, classic and clean stationary and those gorgeous ghost chairs for a dose of classic timelessness that will never look dated. The masculine lines of the city’s structural buildings combined with the soft and feminine orchid blooms at centerpiece of the design worked together to give us the city-chic ambiance that as Chicagoan, we know will never go out of style!
