handmade barn wedding at byron colby barn

Sarah + Jamie were married at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and hosted their reception at Byron Colby Barn.  It was the second wedding of the year I had the pleasure of working with Brian Kinyon Photography.  One of my favorite things Sarah, Jamie and Brian did together was take some bridal party photos at Pickwick Theatre, how great is that space?

I loved seeing the dramatic photos of the ceremony because I was at the barn all day unloading and setting up the trailer full of DIY decor that Sarah made.  The set-up was an all day project, but it turned out so great, all of Sarah’s crafty work and DIY projects really turned the barn into a cozy backyard wedding full of the story of their love.

Lots of backyard games, framed photos, custom built wooden centerpiece boxes, Hoosier Mama Pies, flowers in ball jars that Sarah arranged herself, their wedding was truly a labor of love.

elegant chicago wedding at adler planetarium

We’re so close to Spring!  Winter might not last forever, yesterday HAD to be the very last snow…right?!  This morning I wanted to re-live Rachel + Trevor’s summer wedding at Adler Planetarium.  All of those windows and that light!

rachel + trevor 33

After spending the morning getting ready, Brian Kinyon Photography took the bridal party around town for some gorgeous shots that encapsulate this beautiful city.  I love, love, love public transportation in wedding photos (not so much when I have to sit by the smelly guy on a crowded train) but I love the perspective Brian caught through the bus shelter.  And the lakefront is always a stunner.

So many special touches that Rachel and Trevor brought to life to make their day uniquely theirs and classic shades of blues and purples made for an incredibly elegant day.  I think the windows overlooking the lake at Adler Planetarium are reason enough to think about getting married there.  Holy beautiful.

After the vows were said, the rings were exchanged, the cake was cut and the toasts had been made, we did what any good coordinator would do and turned it over to Great Life Music to keep the dance floor packed, and boy did they. A pretty wonderful day for some pretty wonderful people!

styled shoot: modern architecture at venue six10

This styled shoot was inspired, simply put, by our beautiful city.  The architectural landscape of Chicago’s skyline is incredibly stunning and we chose Venue SIX10 to showcase the cities architecture and give us the modern and clean backdrop we wanted for the shoot.  From the towering skyscrapers to the city’s structural landmarks, the Chicago skyline embodies a pretty masculine form so we challenged ourselves to make that work with the softness and beauty of a wedding day.  We used modern elements to convey sophistication and luxury such as the venue itself, stark white and angular with an amazing view.  Choosing a modern dress and cake that were both a bit asymmetrical and creating a ceremony backdrop that was conceptualized using glass spheres to create a modern illusion added plenty of modern and chic to the shoot.  We paired those elements with all white flowers, white linens and slate grey napkins, classic and clean stationary and those gorgeous ghost chairs for a dose of classic timelessness that will never look dated. The masculine lines of the city’s structural buildings combined with the soft and feminine orchid blooms at centerpiece of the design worked together to give us the city-chic ambiance that as Chicagoan, we know will never go out of style!

carnival chic wedding at salvage one

Francine + Dan were married in December at Salvage One and partied with their friends and family at their carnival chic reception. We had the pleasure of coordinating and styling their day and we brought out the big guns at this, our last wedding of the year.

These gorgeous photos were taken by Anni of Anni Cee Photographie.  A year an a half before we collaborated on Francine + Dan’s wedding, Anticipation Events had the extreme pleasure of coordinating for Anni and her husband Ross at Salvage One.  It felt like coming full circle, and I love that I get to see her and work with her on the vendor side of things for many years to come.

We not only coordinated for Francine + Dan, but we helped them create a unique style for their wedding. Salvage One is so wonderfully eclectic that we were careful not to over-do things, but still wanted to create a whimsical story and space for their guests.  Handmade table runners to give each table a little pop of color, simple gold table numbers, old-fashioned Coca-Cola bottle escort cards, and rolls of vintage raffle tickets propped up flowers that Francine’s aunt brought all the way from California.  We hung metal hot air balloons whose baskets were filled with flowers above each table and I brought Julia and Laura help create a top-drop (like a backdrop, but over your head?!) of fringed crepe paper and cafe lights. I love how it turned out and the way it photographed!

It was our last wedding of the year and a fantastic way to end our best year yet.  We worked with the most wonderful vendors and had the loveliest clients.  And a little carnival chic never hurt anybody on a bright and snowy December day.  Congrats Francine + Dan!

cheery summer wedding at bridgeport arts center

Audrey + Richard were married in August at Skyline Loft at Bridgeport Arts Center.  We were lucky enough to do a lot of planning with them, helping them book their vendors and thus making it a wedding full of some of our favorites!

audrey + richard 83

Audrey rented a big house in the Gold Coast where all of her friends stayed for the weekend and all of the girls got ready the morning of the wedding.

Ryan took the whole gang downtown to capture some gorgeous photos before heading to Bridgeport.  I’m totally digging the lakefront shots and the ferris wheel!  Has Navy Pier ever looked so glamorous?  The answer is no.

My pals over at Asrai Garden created the most beautiful bouquets and gorgeous ceremony arch for the couple and Sue over at Food Evolution coordinated the most gorgeous (and delicious) food.  Passed tacos for appetizers alongside mini-margartias in Patron bottles?  Genius!

Style Matters kept the dance floor packed all night.  Literally, even when the lights went on and the party was over, these guys were still on the dance floor singing their own music.

Audrey, Richard and their families were so easy to work with and fun to be around. From looking at venues a year before the big day to packing Audrey’s parents up in their car at the end of the night, they were so grateful and genuine and kind.  Putting together an amazing team of vendors with them and having them be so pleased with how the whole day happened materialized is one of my favorite things about this business.  A thousand good wishes and endless happiness to these two wonderful human beings.
