tented destination wedding in iowa

Britta + Ty were married in September 2013 at a private residence in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Some family friends live on a gorgeous piece of property that seems otherworldly, like you stepped into a magazine.  With Britta’s great style (she owns Faithful Roots) a gorgeous setting and a wild and crazy bridal party, this was one of my most memorable weddings from 2013!indie wedding

Britta’s flowers and dress were exquisite and sweet touches really made the day their own.  They rented vintage furniture from Covington & Co., we decorated their ceremony arch with tons of lush florals and set up paper cones of dried lavender that guests tossed after they said “i do!”

Tons of personal touches make everything that day so special, Britta’s brother played guitar as she walked down the aisle, their friend officiated the ceremony and Ty’s brothers gave the craziest yet heartfelt toast I’ve seen (let’s just say they pulled up to said toast on a John Deere.)

We hung a chandelier on a tree over the couples sweetheart table and set up a vintage desk for their friends and family to write their well wishes to the couple at, complete with a framed email that was their first correspondence. (Ty was obviously in need of a BUNCH of vintage furniture and lighting!)  Dessert in the sunroom, portraits by Alexandra Steele Photography on vintage sofas and plenty of dancing, drinks and debauchery make for a wedding day to be reminisced about by friends and family for years to come!

glamorous chicago wedding at the rookery

Michelle and Todd were married at The Rookery in August 2013.  As you can plainly tell from this photo, they had a terrible time. Ha! So much fun and lightheartness with these two made for just a lovely day for everyone. Aislinn, girl wonder and coordinator extraordinaire got Michelle and Todd down the aisle and to the party with ease.wedding styling

After getting all dolled up the bridal party stormed the streets of downtown Chicago so Anna Guziak could capture these amazing shots. I love Michelle’s veil and A Stem Above did an awesome job with their flowers.

“In 1871, the Great Fire ravaged Chicago. While devastating, it launched a building boom that pushed architectural experimentation and advancement that put Chicago at the forefront of progress. The Rookery was one of the resulting masterpieces of commercial architecture.” This building is stunning to say the least.

Shades of purple, adorned the room after the flip and I had the great pleasure of styling out their awesome candy bar.  I appreciate when couples just want “the good candy” even if it doesn’t fit in with their color scheme: Swedish Fish, Rolos, and Sour Patch Kids, yes please!  Aislinn was the perfect match for Michelle + Todd’s glamorous and sophisticated day!

michigan avenue wedding at the blackstone hotel

Emily + Dan were married in October at one of my favorite hotels in the city: The Blackstone Hotel. There is so much character and jaw-dropping architecture in that one Michigan Avenue building. Doesn’t hurt to have the loveliest bride to casually perch on the sill of a stunning art deco window for a snap either!wedding planners chicago

Our lovely neighbor Meg over at Pistil & Vine did an amazing job with the flowers which brought the perfect pop of color to the room.  Emily and Dan were married under a chuppah that was fashioned from lace from the wedding dresses and veils of their families, all sewn together to make something new for Emily and Dan and the start of their future.

These guys partied all night long.  It’s always so fun for us to watch our couples kick back, after all the “stuff” is done: the toasts, the first dances, the thank you’s the cake cutting.  We turn down the lights, turn up the music and let them loose onto the dance floor for the last couple of hours of the night and it’s so fun to see everyone get down.  The grandparents, the little guys and the bride and groom, it’s party time and those chandeliers on the ceiling of The Blackstone Hotel make a beautiful backdrop for dancin’.  Many happy days ahead for Emily, Dan and their little puppy dog!

antique taco styled shoot

Throw back to the beautiful styled shoot we did at Antique Taco last year. I got to coordinate and style the shoot which is one of my favorite things ever, especially in a space as lovely as theirs.

It was super fun to work with Yuri from Fox & Hound Paperie, she brought my popcorn menu bag idea to life better than I could have expected and we artfully tossed packs of gun around together all morning long. I wanted a churro cupcake but couldn’t find one locally so I snagged some vanilla cupcakes and mini churros and voila, how stinking cute are they?! Such a fun group of vendors to work with and a fantastic result to boot.  See the shoot featured here on Swooned Magazine!
